We all crave new experiences and novelty to some degree to keep life fresh and exciting. Even common activities that we normally find fun and enjoyable can become lackluster if we do them too frequently and never try to add a twist to them. So, by putting a unique twist on a common, non-creative activity, we can make even simple and mundane tasks more enjoyable and engaging.

Life can become boring and tedious if we find ourselves doing the same things over and over again. We all crave for new experiences and novelty to keep life fresh and exciting. Even common activities that we normally find fun and enjoyable can become mundane if we do them too frequently and never attempt to add a twist to them.

So, by putting a little twist on a standard non-creative activity, we can make even simple and mundane tasks more enjoyable and interesting .

Develop an ingenious mindset and you'll transform almost any boring activity into something new and interesting. This includes:

  • Discovering new uses for ordinary objects (using chopsticks to eat grapes).
  • Combining activities that normally don’t go together (dancing to your favorite music while washing dishes).
  • Turning activities into a game or competition (“Who can complete their homework the fastest?”)
  • Wearing a costume (dressing up according to your favorite movie or your favorite book).
  • Role-playing a different character (pretending to be a superhero).
  • Improvising and being spontaneous (learning how to think or respond quickly in any situation by practicing improvisation exercises).
  • Being hospitable to new experiences (keeping an open-mind always and being willing to look at situations from different perspectives).

All of these skills will help you to build a more “creative mindset”, and each one can be applied to any given moment to turn it into a completely new experience.

Ultimately the more creative you are, the easier it will be for you to transfer your any ordinary experience into something fresh and stimulating. It gives you more power over your experiences.

It is a very under-appreciated ability. With practice, even tough times can become more manageable and lesser painful. We must be willing to ascertain the potential for “fun,” “joy,” or “humour” in everything, but that always requires us to think outside-the-box.

We must try not to fall under the curse of familiarity. Not only does familiarity makes our lives stale and more boring, but it also stops us from growing and seeking out new experiences. It keeps our minds thinking in a particular way only, without considering all of the other possibilities we could have.

This is why it is recommended to find small ways to break your current pattern, even if it’s something super simple such as brushing your teeth with your other hand.

When we try new things, small or large, it keeps life fresh and interesting. But more importantly, it reminds us that we've a choice in everything we do. And simply because we’ve been doing something in the same way for years doesn’t mean we can’t switch things up and check out something different.

Sometimes it’s nice to try to do something different just because you can. It proves to yourself that you have more power and choice over your experiences.
