This 17-year-old dancing sensation from Salem English School, Raipur is an enchanting dancer. There’s something about grooving to the beat of the music that seems to take all of our cares away. Maybe it’s the rhythm or perhaps it’s the challenge of mastering the complicated moves that bring so much joy.

Sairi Rahangdale was only 8 years old when she started her dance journey. Although too young to follow the discipline & dedication required to learn the classical dances, she still tried to learn ‘Bharatanatyam’. She always had an interest in classical dance forms and her passion developed slowly. Watching her inclination towards dance, her parents decided to train her under Dr. Shree G Ratheesh Babu.

There are the obvious benefits of learning dance- a fun source of exercise, healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and helping to maintain a balanced lifestyle. There is clinically significant evidence that children who participate actively in the performing arts spend less time sitting in front of a computer screen playing games and therefore are at less of a risk of developing health problems.

Sairi considers herself very lucky to have extremely supporting teachers and parents. She recalls how she was always interested to dance. She is a fortunate child to have been shown the path and is being taught to chase her dreams. She believes that dance is essential for kids as it has various health benefits and helps them to expand their creativity. Dance also teaches a child self-confidence, self-discipline, poise, and grace.

Whilst dance is a good source of fun exercise for young children, it is also a creative outlet. A fun exercise is important but the opportunity to release creativity is as important as exercising and maintaining a balanced diet in the development of healthy children, because of the life skills they will learn. Dancing can make a person feel physically refreshed and improve their mood, tackling serious issues including anxiety and depression. Dancing is a tool to release daily stress, a distraction from everyday worries and an outlet for imagination and emotion.

At such a young age, Sairi feels blessed and thanks to God for being generous and allowing her to pursue her interest. She has been awarded the Bal pratibha samman, Doon Kirti Samman, Nritya shree, Natya Mayuri and Nritya bhushan. She was also awarded the Brij Nritya Siromani Award. She wants every child to follow what their heart desires and work on their dreams. Sairi will be an inspiration to many kids.
