CASE STUDY

Vriti Gujral

The “Global Child Prodigy Award 2020” recipient in the category of dance for her exceptional dancing talent in Kathak.

Vriti Gujral is a young talent for this new generation. She chose Indian classical art forms to keep our nation’s culture alive. In this modernized era of the 21st century, where the famous Indian culture is losing its traditions, Vriti wants to spread it worldwide. Our young dancer intends to take the Indian heritage forward.

Vriti is currently studying at Sri Venkateshwar International School, Dwarka. She works hard to balance her studies and her passion, Kathak. When asked about how she developed her passion, she told us that at the age of 6, her mother took her to an institute where she was given 3 different art form classes to explore her extracurricular interest. Those were instrumental music - Keyboard, Bollywood dance, and Kathak. After attending the Instrumental and Bollywood dancing classes, when she attended the Kathak class and saw the girls dancing gracefully wearing "Ghungroos" on their feet, she was intrigued. The sound of Ghungroos held her attention. She started her formal Kathak training under her Guru Sh. Barun Banerjee and as she started learning aspects of Kathak like its powerful footwork, graceful abhinaya, sharp spins - she felt blissful and in love with this art form entirely.

At such a young age, Vriti has already given numerous classical dance performances in various parts of India. Her Kathak journey took a major turn in 2016 when the "World Cultural Festival" was held in Delhi where around 37,000 artists performed over three days. Around 1700 "Kathak dancers" performed on the choreography of Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji. During one of its practice sessions Pt. Birju Maharaj ji noticed her and invited her to perform "Solo" at the prestigious "Vasantosav festival" in Delhi's Kamani auditorium. She was just 9 years old and yet performed solo kathak for around 7:30 minutes in front of great maestros of Kathak fraternity. She has been performing on stages in Delhi, NCR, Kolkata, Lucknow. Besides winning competitions, scholarships, she has been winning people's hearts with my performances.

Vriti already has a lot of achievements to her name. She is the Scholarship holder from the Centre of Cultural Resource and Training (CCRT) under the aegis of the Cultural Ministry of India. She got the “Global Child Prodigy Award 2020” in the category of dance for her exceptional dancing talent in Kathak. Only 100 children were selected all over the world for this award and Vriti got selected from India for her brilliance in Kathak. She was also featured in the Global Child Prodigy Award book 2020. Recently, she made it to the Top Five Finalists in “Young Artiste” – Kathak Category, which is a National Competition

The incredible Kathak dancer Vriti is an international rising star of Indian Classical dance above all Vriti Gujral made her nation proud by getting the International award and recognition. The young girl always mesmerizes the audience with her energetic yet graceful classical dance performances.

She wants to be a professional Classical dancer and choreographer to showcase the beauty of Indian Classical Dance to the whole world through her vision. Her ambition is to carve her niche in the field of Kathak and wish to take it at a different level altogether where today's generation can relate to it, enjoy it, and aspire for it.
