Arshdeep Singh

A twelve year old wildlife photographer who hails from the city of Jalandhar in Punjab is an inspiration for many.

What is equally important as much as academic education? It is to teach a hobby to children at a tender age itself. We come across many stories of children taking up a hobby fervently and eventually developing it as a skill, and this is to be an added prowess to a child’s overall growth. This one story of Arshdeep Singh, a twelve year old wildlife photographer who hails from the city of Jalandhar in Punjab is an inspiration for many. Studying at Apeejay School, Jalandhar, he adequately finds time for his passion for photographing animals and for his academic studies. At an early age, he started accompanying his father to forests and sanctuaries. The vacation slowly shaped up to a choice that has now become his thriving.

At a tender age, watching his father take pictures of birds, he was immediately fascinated by it. His father has been a role model in identifying his child’s interest in photography and encouraging him to learn and practice. mother is a and is the support system behind the work Arshdeep has bagged himself with.

has won himself various renowned awards. Winning the “BBC Wildlife Photographer of The Year” in the year 2018 was a dream come true for him and his family. Apart from this, he was also awarded the “Nature Best Wildlife Photographer-2018” in Japan, and , USA, “Comedy Wildlife Photographer” in London and “Nature Best Wildlife Photographer” as a highly recommended wildlife photographer in the under-age category for the year 2019.

His father, Mr. Randeep Singh, is his coach/mentor, teacher, and the guiding light for all his endeavors and great encouragement. also does follow the works of some wildlife photographers like Tim Laman and David Yarrow and finds them a great inspiration to better his skill. He believes in learning every day and hope.

It is incredible to know how this child sees and connects his creativity and implies to real-life situations. Clicking wildlife through his lens has taught him patience and endurance, which, even as an adult, are an essential aspect of one’s life. He not only excels at what he captures through the camera but is also now conscious and concerned about the conservation of wildlife. He considers wildlife, a significant part of the environment that is being ignored and needs much and dialogues. He is an encouragement for many towards the preservation of forests as a whole and wildlife in particular.

has some tips for anyone who wishes to pursue photography, to be patient with the subject, know the subject, and be well-versed with the right moment to take the shot. Experience and practice are vital to holding flags with flying colors.

In his passion for photography, Arshdeep and his family has not let the academics suffer. All the trips and visits to sanctuaries and forests are done during holidays and weekends. This way, he has time to follow up with the syllabus at school, concentrates on the homework, and also practice new camera techniques. He has visited many countries and cities and has had the chance to take some fantastic shots. His famous owl shot has won him recognition and is worth the praise. He aspires to click different kinds of birds, blue whales, seals, and dolphins around the world. He plans to visit Antarctica to do his next assignment and explore more adventures.
